Gate News message, April 20 — Iraq’s border authority announced on April 20 that the Rabia border crossing between Iraq’s northern Nineveh Province and Syria has reopened, according to Omar Waeeri, director of Iraq’s border management authority. The crossing had remained closed since the outbreak of Syria’s civil war in 2011 due to security concerns in the region.

Waeeri stated that the reopening of the Rabia crossing will facilitate people-to-people flows, trade activities, and crude oil transactions between Iraq, Syria, and neighboring countries. The crossing serves as a key transit point for regional commerce and energy trade.
