Libra Case: Messages Involving President Milei Detected in Forensic Expertise; Others Deleted

Experts who reviewed electronic devices seized as part of the ongoing probe on Libra, the token promoted by President Javir Milei, detected communications between Milei and Mauricio Novelli, one of the individuals linked to the token launch. Several messages in other conversations were erased.

Libra Probe Continues: Deleted Communications Detected In Mobile Phones

The investigation of Libra, a token promoted by Argentina’s President Javier Milei using social media, and its subsequent launch and downfall continues.

According to recent reports, electronic experts who scrutinized the phones seized identified communications between Milei and Mauricio Novelli, one of the individuals involved in the launch of Libra. Novelli also interacted with Milei’s sister, Karina, and with other people linked to Libra.

Nonetheless, the contents of these messages remain secret, as the prosecutor has only revealed the general report of this forensic expertise, failing to include the appendices that might disclose the nature of these exchanges.

Security experts examined the phones of Mauricio Novelli, Manuel Terrones Godoy, and Sergio Morales, allegedly tied to Libra and its launch. The report states that several messages between them had been erased.

Experts found that “all individual conversations and those related to WhatsApp groups made up of Novelli, Terrones Godoy, and Sergio Morales were found to be empty or had been deleted.” Only part of this content could be retrieved, while most was lost.

Novelli also deleted messages directed to its mother, who is known for entering a bank branch and taking the contents of a safe deposit box just a day after the launch of Libra.

“The same appears to have happened with other files. If you look at the screenshots provided in the “Content” section of this report, you will see that each item has a red number, indicating the amount of deleted data that could be recovered through forensic extraction,” experts pointed out.

Milei has repeatedly denied his direct involvement and personal responsibility regarding the Libra token launch. In one of his first public statements after the incident, in which thousands lost millions, he stated that participants “knew very well the risk they were taking. If you go to the casino and lose money, it’s your problem.”
