France prosecutes 88 suspects of the cryptocurrency “wrench attack,” including more than 10 minors

Odaily Planet Daily News: The Office of the Prosecutor for Organized Crime in France (PNACO) announced on Friday that France has launched judicial investigations into 12 cases of cryptocurrency kidnapping planned by organized crime gangs, with 88 suspects currently prosecuted, including more than 10 minors.

According to statistics, since 2023, France has recorded a total of 135 crypto-related attack incidents, with 18 in 2024, 67 in 2025, and 47 since 2026. The suspects are involved in crimes such as kidnapping, illegal detention, extortion, and money laundering. Recently, police arrested 6 suspects in two operations targeting kidnapping cases, and all individuals are currently in preventive detention. CertiK blockchain intelligence analyst Jonathan Riss stated that the masterminds of such criminal gangs are usually located outside the European Union.
