BlockBeats message, March 30: On Sunday local time, Trump told reporters on Air Force One in the United States that Iran has “met” most of the 15 ceasefire demands previously put forward by the U.S. to Tehran, although it is still unclear whether the two sides are truly engaging in substantive negotiations.
He said: “They have met most of our points. Why wouldn’t they do it? We’ll put forward a few other demands.” However, he refused to disclose which specific concessions Iran has made. On the public record, Iran has clearly rejected the list of 15 ceasefire conditions and instead put forward its own five prerequisite conditions—in which includes full control over sovereignty of the Strait of Hormuz.
Over the last weekend, officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey held meetings in an attempt to find a way forward for the conflict, but there are currently no signs that the talks have made substantive progress. After meeting with counterparts from various countries, Pakistan’s foreign minister said: “Both Iran and the United States have expressed that they trust Pakistan and are willing to have Pakistan host the follow-up negotiations.” However, neither side has indicated that it is ready for direct talks.
