Starbucks Launches ChatGPT Integration for AI-Powered Beverage Recommendations

Gate News message, April 16 — Starbucks has launched a beta app within ChatGPT that uses artificial intelligence to deliver personalized beverage recommendations. Users can describe their mood, taste preferences, or desired atmosphere, and receive tailored drink suggestions that can be ordered directly through the Starbucks app or website for in-store pickup.

The feature aims to capture customers’ immediate inspiration rather than requiring them to passively browse the menu. Starbucks is also testing AI applications on a broader scale, including Green Dot Assist, an intelligent assistant for baristas built on Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI platform. Both initiatives align with CEO Brian Niccol’s “Back to Starbucks” transformation plan, which seeks to shift away from over-reliance on mobile orders and restore the brand’s classic coffeehouse experience. The plan includes adding comfortable seating in stores, streamlining the menu, optimizing the membership program, and establishing clear service standards. AI will serve as a behind-the-scenes technology enabler rather than replacing the brand’s human-centered service.

Starbucks stock has gained 17% year-to-date in 2026.
