Pi Network Requires Protocol 22 Upgrade by April 27 or Nodes Will Disconnect

PI-0,31%

Gate News message, April 20 — Pi Network has issued a mandatory upgrade deadline for node operators: Protocol 22 must be deployed by April 27, 2026, or nodes risk disconnection from the network. The upgrade moves the system from version 21.2 to version 22.1 and cannot be skipped or delayed, as each version builds sequentially on the previous one.

The upgrade is designed to enhance network stability and performance while preparing the infrastructure for Protocol 23, which is expected to introduce smart contract functionality. Most upgrades should complete in under 15 minutes. Pi Network recommends operators avoid upgrading all nodes simultaneously; instead, traffic should be shifted during the process to prevent downtime. Official tools are available to automate the upgrade process.

Nodes that miss the April 27 deadline may lose network connectivity and miss out on future updates and opportunities, including upcoming smart contract features. With seven days remaining, Pi Network is urging operators to act early.
