New York City government lifts its TikTok usage ban, allowing government devices to use it again

GateNews

Gate News reports that on April 1, the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, announced on March 31 that TikTok, the short-video platform, would be permitted again on government electronic devices. On the same day, Adams posted a message on TikTok saying, “TikTok, we’re back.” According to The Associated Press, a memo issued by the New York City mayor’s office shows that this policy adjustment aims to expand the dissemination of information from the New York City government, allowing various departments to publish content on the platform. The memo states, “We hope to open a new channel for communication with the public and help deliver the information that New Yorkers need.” At the same time, the memo requires that all official departmental accounts must adhere to a series of security measures, including using dedicated devices free of sensitive data and designating specific personnel to manage the accounts.
