Gate News Report, March 13 — Meituan CEO Wang Xing stated at the 2026 management communication meeting, “AI Agents have a greater impact on me than ChatGPT.” He compared the difference between mobile internet and the internet to roses and peonies, and said that AI compared to the internet is “like monkeys and flowers — the scale and influence are much greater.” Wang Xing believes AI is destined to create enormous productivity and will bring significant changes to organizations and work patterns. Facing the AI wave, “the only thing we can do is actively embrace it.”
Wang Xing used an analogy to explain Meituan’s approach to AI: even if Einstein were a secretary and asked him to book a restaurant, he still wouldn’t know if there were seats available. “This isn’t an intelligence issue, but an information issue.” The implication is that even the smartest large models need real-time data from the physical world, which is precisely what Meituan has been accumulating over the long term. Wang Puzhong, CEO of Meituan’s core local commerce division, also stated at the same event that Meituan will firmly invest in its own foundational large models, developing distinctive low-reasoning-cost models, and building the most comprehensive and accurate data foundation of the physical world to help every merchant use AI assistants. Meituan previously launched its AI search product “Wen Xiaotuan” during the Spring Festival.
Over 2,000 managers participated in this communication event both online and offline. Wang Xing also called on management to “reduce unnecessary meetings” and proposed that internal company communication should be direct, no longer calling him “Xing Ge.”
