Ice Open Network Suffers Data Breach; User Emails and 2FA Phone Numbers Exposed

ZRO-2,39%

Gate News message, April 20 — Blockchain project Ice Open Network, creator of the $ION token and the Online+ social network on BNB Chain, disclosed a security incident on April 15 that resulted in unauthorized access to user personal data. Compromised information includes email addresses and 2FA phone numbers, though the team confirmed that private keys, financial data, and wallet information were not affected.

According to Ice Open Network’s official statement, the breach occurred when a server hosting their identity database was accessed by individuals who were not Ice Labs employees, but rather four former partners of a hired service provider. The leaked data contains identity key names, public keys, email IDs, and 2FA phone numbers. No fund theft has been reported, and the team emphasized that core platform functions remain unaffected.

In response, Ice Open Network has traced those responsible and initiated formal legal action, including filing a complaint with the United Kingdom’s Information Commissioner’s Office and submitting a criminal complaint to authorities. The platform will conduct a system migration on April 21, which may cause temporary unavailability or loading issues. Users have been advised to update their 2FA settings for both email and phone accounts.

The incident reflects broader security challenges in the crypto sector. In the first 18 days of April alone, crypto protocol hacks resulted in $606.2 million in losses across 12 attacks—3.7 times higher than the entire Q1 2026 total of $165.5 million and the highest monthly figure since February 2025. KelpDAO was hit for $293 million, marking the largest single exploit of 2026, with hackers exploiting a cross-chain message vulnerability on LayerZero to steal approximately 18% of rsETH’s circulating supply.
