According to monitoring by 1M AI News, Google has launched a “switching tool” for Gemini, allowing both free and paid users to import memories, preferences, and complete chat histories from other AI chat applications into Gemini, rolling out to consumer accounts starting today.
The tool includes two features:
- Memory import: Users obtain a preset prompt on the Gemini settings page, paste it into the currently used AI application, which automatically generates a summary covering user preferences, interpersonal relationships, and personal background, and then the summary is pasted back into Gemini to complete the import.
- Chat history import: Users can upload a ZIP format chat history package exported from other AI service providers to search historical conversations in Gemini and continue previous discussions.
Google has also renamed the “past chats” feature of Gemini to “memory.” Enterprise accounts and users under 18 are not currently supported, and users in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland are not yet enabled. Earlier this month, Anthropic launched a similar memory import feature for Claude.
