According to 1M AI News monitoring, the daily average number of calls to cloud-based large models in Volcano Engine, ByteDance’s cloud computing business, has exceeded 100 trillion tokens. Since the Spring Festival, it has increased by more than 60% in less than two months. Globally, only three companies—OpenAI, Google, and ByteDance—have currently reached this level. ByteDance’s consumption mainly comes from the China market, while overseas markets are in a phase of rapid growth.
A representative from Volcano Engine said that the growth has been achieved under constraints. The Seedance 2.0 API for video generation models has not yet been officially launched overseas. In the past more than one month, the growth in token consumption from individual users has been about 16 times. Products such as OpenClaw and other agent offerings that push AI to mass users are the main driving force.
Volcano Engine had previously set a target for its MaaS (model as a service) business revenue to exceed 10 billion yuan in 2026. With the release of models such as Seed 2.0 and Seedance 2.0, and OpenClaw continuing to go viral, the team has already raised its revenue target. ByteDance started later than others in cloud computing domestically, and it regards MaaS as the core battlefield for making a leapfrog advance on the inside.
The National Data Bureau disclosed yesterday that China’s daily average token call volume had already surpassed 140 trillion in March this year. In early 2024, this figure was 100 billion; by the end of 2025, it jumped to 100 trillion, representing more than a thousand-fold growth over two years.
