FTX co-founder Gary Wang seeks judge's ruling to avoid imprisonment before sentencing

BlockBeatNews

According to BlockBeats on November 7th, Gary Wang, co-founder of FTX, should not be sentenced to prison, according to his lawyer. He cooperated with the authorities and did not know the extent of the exchange’s criminal activity. According to a sentencing memo submitted on Wednesday, Wang claimed he was unaware of Alameda Research’s misappropriation of FTX client funds and only became aware of the situation after the fraudulent behavior “went smoothly”. Wang will be sentenced on November 20th in a New York court. His son is also due to be born a week later on November 27th, and he and his wife Cheryl Chen are both full-time software engineers. The memo states that his current work includes supporting “forensic companies, criminal investigators, and judicial professionals seeking faithful preservation of evidence”. Wang later testified in SBF’s trial, telling the court about SBF’s secret grant of special privileges to Alameda Research’s account on FTX. The lawyer also claimed that “it is crucial, as the government has acknowledged and trial evidence has shown, that when Gary wrote the code, he did not know that Bankman-Fried would use these features to steal client funds. Bankman-Fried did not even notify Gary (let alone coordinate with him) before starting to use these features.” (The Block)
