According to Paradigm researcher Dan Robinson, a new model called Provable Address-Control Timestamps (PACTs) could protect dormant bitcoins, including those belonging to Bitcoin’s creator Satoshi Nakamoto, from future quantum computing threats. The proposal allows bitcoin holders to prove wallet ownership and timestamp this proof on the blockchain, creating a record that could be used to reclaim funds on a quantum-resistant version of Bitcoin without revealing the owner’s current activity. This addresses a key limitation of other quantum-protection proposals like BIP-361, which would require dormant addresses to migrate to new technology or risk losing their funds.
