Just been looking at what's been moving in the Canadian silver space lately, and honestly the story here is pretty straightforward. Silver hit that wild $121 per ounce back in January, and it's been dragging a bunch of Canadian stocks higher with it. Still way above where it was a few decades ago, so the fundamentals are definitely there with that supply deficit everyone keeps talking about.
I went through the best performers on TSX and the venture boards this year, and there's some interesting plays if you're thinking about exposure to silver. BP Silver on the TSXV caught my eye first - up 56% year-to-date. They're working this Cosuño project in Bolivia and just put out some pretty solid drill results. One hole came back with over 1,600 grams per ton of silver in a single meter. That's the kind of grade that gets people excited in this sector.
Then you've got Highlander Silver, which is up 41% so far. They picked up that strategic $40 million from Eric Sprott back in January, which definitely helped the momentum. They're running operations in Mexico and Peru with some bonanza-grade assets. That kind of backing usually means management has conviction about what they're sitting on.
Honey Badger Silver is another one worth watching - they just closed on an $11.5 million financing to develop their newly acquired PC project in the Northwest Territories. It's an underground silver-zinc-lead play with existing infrastructure already there.
The bigger names have done well too. First Majestic Silver, the world's second-largest by market cap, is up about 23% year-to-date. They produced 15.4 million ounces of silver last year across their Mexican operations. Silvercorp Metals, the fourth-largest, is up roughly 22%. They operate mines in China and just reported quarterly revenue up 51% year-over-year.
What's interesting is how these best silver stocks canada have all benefited from both the industrial demand side and investment demand - people treating silver as a cheaper gold alternative for safe-haven buying. If that silver price holds up or keeps climbing, you'd expect more upside in these names. Worth keeping an eye on if you're looking at precious metals exposure on Gate or elsewhere.
