Just sorted out my SASSA grant details update and thought I'd share what actually works, because the process is different depending on which grant you're on. If you're getting the permanent grants like old age or disability, you literally have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office—can't do it online no matter what. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than three months), and you fill out their Payment Method Change Form. The whole thing takes up to 21 working days to process, so if you need it done by next month, submit before the 15th. Fair warning though: they won't pay into joint accounts or anything in someone else's name, has to be solely yours.

But here's the thing—if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way simpler. You can actually update your srd sassa gov za banking details online through their portal. You just enter your ID number, they send you a secure SMS link, click it, input your new bank details, and you're done. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify, but at least you're not sitting in an office queue. Same deal though—account has to be in your name.

For the cellphone number update on SRD, use their contact portal, enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, they send an OTP to verify it. If the online thing isn't working (which happens), just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 or visit your local office. Honestly, if you're stuck with anything complex, that's probably your most reliable option even though you might wait. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA channels and not some random website claiming they can update your details—fraud is real out there.
