US media: The FBI is investigating leaks involving the former director of the National Counterterrorism Center
Former Director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent resigned after opposing the Iran conflict, and on the 18th, U.S. media reported that the FBI accused Kent of leaking classified information and is investigating him.
The Associated Press, CBS, and other outlets, citing sources, reported that the FBI’s criminal division is responsible for the investigation.
On the 18th, Kent stated on conservative commentator Tucker Carlson’s program that Trump relied on only a small group of advisors when deciding to strike Iran.
“Many key decision-makers were prohibited from expressing opinions to the president, and there was no in-depth debate at all.”
On the 17th, Kent posted an open letter to Trump on social media announcing his resignation.
In the letter, he wrote, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing Iran war. Iran does not pose an imminent threat to our country, and it is clear that this war is driven by pressure from Israel and its powerful lobbying groups in the U.S.”
Trump responded that day, saying Kent “has a weak stance on security issues,” and his resignation “is a good thing.”
