Bill Gates now holds only about 0.9% of Microsoft shares. At the time of the company's earliest IPO, he held 45%, but has continuously reduced his holdings through sales and donations since then. So in fact, Microsoft's boss is no longer him, and he has no say whatsoever in Microsoft's affairs. Ballmer holds 4.5%, with very minimal reduction in his holdings.



Nadella is the CEO, and the institutional mega-shareholders with significant board influence are Vanguard, BlackRock, and State Street.
