President Trump told Axios that he expects the U.S.-Iran war to end “soon” because there is “practically nothing left to target” in Iran.

“We are way ahead of the timetable,” he said. “We have done more damage than we thought possible, even in the original six-week period.” Tensions rose on Tuesday after U.S. intelligence received indications that Iran had deployed mines in the Strait of Hormuz, although 16 Iranian mine-laying boats have already been destroyed, Trump confirmed.

Energy Costs Surge as Iran Blocks Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. and Israel have continued to launch attacks on Iran on the 12th day of the conflict. Iran has retaliated by striking U.S.-linked facilities in several Middle Eastern countries and effectively shutting down the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting the flow of millions of barrels of oil.

That’s led to surging energy costs, with the average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. rising by 12% over the past week to $3.58.
