Spain Retail Sales Growth Quickens in January

Retail trade in Spain increased by 4% year-on-year in January 2026, up from a 2.8% gain in December. Non-food sales rose the most, especially personal equipment, while food spending grew by 2.5%. Monthly retail trade saw a slight increase of 0.1%.

Retail trade in Spain rose by 4% year-on-year in January 2026, accelerating from a downwardly revised 2.8% increase in the prior month. Sales increased the most for non-food products (5.7%), of which personal equipment (5.6%), household equipment (2.5%) and other goods (2.4%). Spending on food grew by 2.5%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade edged up by 0.1%, following a revised 0.9% decrease in the previous month.
