Why do many people prefer waiting for ride-hailing services instead of taking a taxi from the roadside?

A guy shared that a few days ago, his wife had just given birth and was discharged from the hospital. He first carried his luggage downstairs to wait.
There is a designated taxi pickup area in front of the hospital, where a row of taxi drivers are waiting for fares. He went directly to ask.
Unexpectedly, several drivers asked him, as if checking household registration, what he was doing at the hospital.
When he explained that his wife had just given birth and they were going home, they waved him off, saying they wouldn't take him because it was bad luck.
Then a driver approached, pretending to be sympathetic and said, "Alright, give me 100 yuan. Everyone who just had a baby here gets 100 yuan."
A few other drivers nearby also started to join in, saying, "Yes, that's the rule. If it's less than 100 yuan, no one will pick you up."
In the end, he had no choice but to take out his phone and call a ride-hailing car, specifically selecting the option not to call a taxi.
Within five minutes, a brand-new Hongqi premium car arrived.
The driver, wearing white gloves, got out proactively to help him with his luggage and thoughtfully opened the car door for him.
