$BZZ $BZZ When we combine Vitalik's new ideas with the current state of Swarm, doubts about its value become even more apparent:
1. The fading "official" halo of Ethereum: Swarm's biggest selling point is the "endorsement" by the Ethereum Foundation, seen as one of the three main pillars of Web3.0 alongside smart contracts and Whisper. But now, Vitalik's public "correction" of the roadmap indicates that Ethereum's core development team no longer considers this a strategic priority. As the "official halo" disappears, Swarm's position in the minds of investors and developers will naturally decline.
2. Competing with the mainnet rather than complementing it: Swarm was originally designed to provide decentralized storage for Ethereum. However, Vitalik's new blueprint aims to make the mainnet itself more powerful (raising Gas limits, introducing new languages), which directly reduces the demand for L2 solutions and external storage. When a project's problem is being addressed by the evolution of the mainnet itself, its necessity comes into question.
3. No safe haven in fierce competition: In the decentralized storage race, Swarm not only faces strong competitors like Filecoin and Arweave but also now faces pressure from the "internalization" of functions into the Ethereum mainnet. While other projects are desperately expanding their ecosystems, Swarm has lost its most core strategic reliance, making its situation quite difficult.
💎 Summary
Overall, Vitalik's new ideas are a heavy blow to Swarm (BZZ). They make this already struggling project’s position within the Ethereum ecosystem even more awkward and ambiguous.
From the current perspective, it is already very difficult for Swarm to maintain its value solely based on the narrative of "being Ethereum's storage layer." Its future may depend on whether it can find extremely niche application scenarios that the Ethereum mainnet cannot cover and that other storage projects have not yet occupied. But this is undoubtedly an extremely challenging path.
