Hong Kong stocks’ entertainment shares declined significantly, with Maoyan Entertainment dropping 9%, Huayi Brothers Media down 7.5%, Happy Media falling over 5%, Emperor Culture Industry, Straw Bear Entertainment, and China Star Group also declining.

According to a report from CICC, based on data from EntGroup, as of 10 a.m. on February 23, the box office for the first six days of the 2026 Chinese New Year holiday period (from Lunar New Year’s Day to the sixth day, February 17-22) was 5.077 billion RMB, a 38.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. The total box office for the holiday period is expected to fall below the previous estimate of 6.5 to 8.5 billion RMB, mainly due to a lack of leading films amid a high baseline. “Flying Past Life 3” leads in box office, followed by “Silent Spring.”

Attention to the release schedule and performance of upcoming films. Looking ahead, domestic films such as “Genius Game” and “Priceless” have been scheduled, as well as imported films like “Wuthering Heights” and “Rescue Plan.” Other reserve domestic films include “Wild Forbidden Land,” “Blooming Flowers,” “Spy Catcher,” and “Penghu Sea Battle”; imported films include “Odyssey” and “Avengers: Secret Wars 5.” (Gelonghui)
