IT House February 24th News, with a 150-year history and known for its home security systems, ADT announced the acquisition of Origin Wireless for $170 million (IT House note: approximately 1.176 billion RMB at current exchange rates).

According to reports, Origin Wireless is the inventor of Wi-Fi radio frequency sensing technology. They have developed a unique algorithm capable of analyzing the reflection of wireless RF signals in space, enabling detection of the presence and movement of people and objects without additional sensors.

ADT plans to integrate Origin Wireless’s technology into its smart home and security systems to provide more context when security alerts are triggered and potentially reduce false alarms. By leveraging existing Wi-Fi technology, future ADT systems may deploy fewer sensors inside homes, simplifying installation.

In fact, Origin Wireless’s AI sensing platform has been available in various product forms over the past few years, such as the now discontinued Linksys Aware feature (integrated into the company’s wireless routers), and it has been used in SpaceSense technology, which turns WiZ smart bulbs into motion sensors. Additionally, the company launched its own Wi-Fi-based motion sensing solution, Hex Home, in 2021.
