On February 24th local time, Democratic leaders stated that negotiations with the White House to resume operations of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have reached a deadlock. The department’s funding expired on January 30th. Senate Democratic Leader Schumer said that after Democrats proposed a plan to end the shutdown last week, “all I heard was silence,” and accused the White House of making no concessions on key issues, including requiring federal immigration enforcement officers to remove masks while enforcing the law and obtaining search warrants before entering residences.
