Intel Corporation (INTC, Financials) is investing in artificial intelligence chip startup SambaNova Systems as part of a $350 million Series E funding round and will form a strategic partnership with the company.

SambaNova said the new capital will support expanded manufacturing and cloud capacity. Investors in the round include Vista Equity Partners, Cambium Capital, Intel Capital, Battery Ventures and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates.
The startup also said Japan’s SoftBank Corp. will be the first customer to deploy its SN50 accelerator in next-generation AI data centers. SambaNova claims the new chip delivers significantly higher compute performance and network bandwidth compared with its prior generation.
Intel Chief Executive Lip-Bu Tan serves as executive chairman of SambaNova. Reuters previously reported that Intel had discussed acquiring the startup for about $1.6 billion, including debt.
The investment underscores Intel’s broader effort to strengthen its presence in the competitive AI chip market, where demand for high-performance accelerators continues to rise.
