The Chief Engineer of the National Energy Administration and Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Science & Technology Equipment, Liu Deshun, stated, “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China’s energy science and technology innovation faces a complex situation with both opportunities and challenges, along with intensified competition. From a global perspective: First, green low-carbon development is the main direction of energy science and technology innovation. Supporting the development and quality improvement of new energy through technological innovation is key, especially solving the safety and stability challenges caused by the high integration of intermittent and volatile new energy sources into the power system. Second, the heat for frontier technological innovation in future energy continues to rise. Major global economies are actively deploying in areas like hydrogen energy and controlled nuclear fusion, with rapid technological iteration constantly giving rise to new energy industries, new business forms, and new models. Third, the explosive growth of artificial intelligence has become a new variable reshaping the global energy competition landscape. AI and the energy industry empower each other, with continuous integrated innovation accelerating, driving transformation across the entire energy production, transmission, and consumption chain. Under the new circumstances, we must strengthen original disruptive innovation with greater effort, accelerate breakthroughs in key core technologies in critical fields, and promote deep integration of technological and industrial innovation. Only then can we firmly grasp the initiative in energy science and technology development, and win strategic advantage in the international competition where technological revolution and great power rivalry intertwine.” (Official WeChat of the National Energy Administration)
