National Energy Administration: By 2025, China's new installed capacity for wind and solar power will exceed 430 million kilowatts, setting a new record

According to the National Energy Administration, by 2025, China will achieve new milestones in wind and solar power development. First, the total installed capacity of new wind and solar power nationwide will exceed 430 million kilowatts (including 120 million kilowatts of wind power and 318 million kilowatts of solar power), a 22.0% year-on-year increase, setting a new record high. The cumulative grid-connected capacity of wind and solar power will reach 1.84 billion kilowatts, accounting for 47.3%, surpassing thermal power for the first time in history. Second, the “green content” of electricity consumption will continue to rise, with wind and solar power generation increasing by 25% year-on-year in 2025, accounting for 22% of total power generation, significantly boosting the proportion of renewable energy in total electricity generation to nearly 40%. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, China’s development speed of new energy sources represented by wind and solar has been unprecedented, with the installed capacity reaching 3.4 times that of the end of 2020. The contribution to transformation has become increasingly prominent, with the share of electricity increasing by over 12 percentage points. The plan has successfully achieved all targets of the 14th Five-Year Plan, realizing large-scale, high-proportion leapfrog development, laying a solid foundation for reaching peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.
