The European Union’s top trade negotiator wants to see EU lawmakers vote to approve the bloc’s trade deal with the U.S. in March after the ratification process was put on hold amid President Trump’s latest tariff moves.

“It is imperative we keep the process moving forward in implementing our commitments under the joint statement,” Maros Sefcovic told members of the European Parliament on Tuesday. A final vote in March “must remain our main target, under the condition, of course, that we get more clarity from the U.S.,” he said.

European lawmakers on Monday agreed to put talks and a vote on legal aspects of the so-called Turnberry deal on ice again following a Friday Supreme Court ruling that President Trump’s global tariffs are illegal. Trump has since instated a new 10% tariff.
