According to DLNews, South Korean prosecutors have charged a 39-year-old man with attempting to murder his business partner by poisoning their iced latte coffee with methoxyfenozide, a highly toxic pesticide illegally purchased from China, after a failed cryptocurrency investment. The two had been collaborating on Bitcoin investments since 2022, but the defendant misappropriated company funds to invest $810,000 USD, which failed, leading to a deterioration of their relationship. In October 2025, the defendant purchased the banned pesticide for about $200 USD and smuggled it into the country; in November, he poisoned the coffee at a café in Songpa District, Seoul. The defendant will face trial for attempted murder and violations of pesticide management laws, with the Seoul Eastern District Court scheduled to hold a hearing on March 10, 2026.
