IT House, February 5 — According to The Information today, NVIDIA has delayed the launch of its new gaming graphics cards due to a shortage of memory chips.
Sources familiar with the matter say that the ongoing global storage chip shortage, driven by the AI boom, will prevent NVIDIA from releasing new graphics cards aimed at gamers this year.
One insider mentioned that, affected by the storage chip shortage, NVIDIA is also significantly reducing the production of its current generation gaming graphics cards—the GeForce RTX 50 series. Over the past year, due to supply shortages, the prices of NVIDIA’s new gaming graphics cards have increased at major retail stores and e-commerce platforms.
A NVIDIA spokesperson stated in a release, “Demand for GeForce RTX series graphics cards remains strong, but supply of storage chips is limited.” The spokesperson did not comment on the delay of the chip release but added that NVIDIA continues to deliver all GeForce series products and is working closely with suppliers to maximize storage chip supply.
ChannelGate reported at the end of January that, according to upstream manufacturers, NVIDIA and AIC brand partners will make appropriate adjustments to their main sales strategies in the first quarter of this year, mainly focusing on 8GB models.
The approximate supply plan leaked by IT House is as follows:
The most mainstream and main model will be the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB series
The RTX 5060 8GB series will become a secondary mainstream model
The RTX 5070 series will be positioned further back
These three series will be NVIDIA’s main sales models in the future, with limited supply of other models based on actual demand
