(MENAFN) Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council has pledged to carry out a full investigation into the recent unrest in the interim capital, Aden, and ensure accountability for those allegedly trying to attack state institutions, according to reports.

The commitment came during a council meeting held in Riyadh on Sunday, with Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani participating via video link, as stated by official sources.

The meeting reviewed “developments in Aden in light of the recent events the city witnessed, including attempts to attack state institutions, disrupt their work, and use the street as a tool of pressure to achieve illegitimate political objectives,” reports said.

Earlier, Aden’s security committee said armed groups had gathered near the Maasheq Presidential Palace, attempting to storm it and clashing with security forces.
The council confirmed casualties during the unrest, condemning it as an effort to target state institutions a day after the newly formed government held its first session in the city.

It emphasized its commitment to “responding firmly to any attempt to disrupt its national institutions, and to opening a comprehensive investigation into these events and holding accountable anyone proven to be involved in inciting or financing them.”

The council also reiterated its appreciation for Saudi Arabia for hosting a conference on southern Yemen, describing it as “an unprecedented level in addressing the southern issue, as a just cause with historical and social dimensions that requires a fair solution within the framework of the state and its guaranteeing references.”

It cautioned against “squandering this historic opportunity under the pressure of slogans or narrow calculations,” urging the protection of gains in security, services, and economic development.

On February 6, the council announced a new government led by Zindani, who also oversees the foreign affairs portfolio, according to reports.
