Let me give another example from my own family. Twenty years ago, my parents, who were from a farming family that started working in the city, impulsively sold their rural house and land. Luckily, the government didn’t allow land consolidation, so they signed the longest lease possible—20 years. Now, 20 years later, my parents are old, they never managed to buy a house in the city, but they realized the land could be used as a pension. The annual rent isn’t much, around 6,000 to 7,000, but at least it’s enough not to starve and to get by. At this moment, I feel that people can easily toss themselves into poverty, and this is the time I’m most grateful for the national policy. Of course, if you read more history, you’ll know that vagrants are the most terrifying; when there are too many, society becomes unstable, and that’s not something we want to see.
