Ordinary people are unlikely to attain enlightenment. Awakening requires four conditions: First, extremity; you must pursue something to the utmost to have a chance of approaching the Dao. Second, pain; people can only awaken through pain, not by being told. The more pain you experience, the more you awaken. Third, idleness; you need time to think. Office workers are exactly the group least likely to attain enlightenment. Fourth, courage; you must have the courage to deny everything, especially authority, and to reject anyone, especially those closest to you.
