PANews reported on November 15 that a Detroit man admitted to concealing Bitcoin donations originally intended to fund the "Islamic State" (SIS) and was sentenced to nine years in federal prison. According to authorities, the man used privacy-focused VPN and encryption software to obscure the Bitcoin transactions. As the man was convicted, the federal government is intensifying efforts to combat the use of crypto assets to fund extremist organizations.

According to the Gate.io News bot, TheBlock reported that Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, a resident of Virginia, USA, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for providing encryption funding support to the Islamic State (SIS). Between 2019 and 2022, Chhipa raised more than $185,000 and converted it into cryptocurrency, which was transited through Turkey and sent to ISIS in Syria, according to Justice Department documents. The funds were used to support ISIS's jailbreak and logistical activities.
