Mastercard launches “Verifiable Intent” to authenticate AI-initiated transactions

TapChiBitcoin

Mastercard has introduced a new framework called Verifiable Intent to ensure trust and authenticity when artificial intelligence (AI) agents perform transactions on behalf of users. The system is designed for the “agentic commerce” model, where AI can automatically place orders, book travel, or manage service subscriptions. Verifiable Intent creates cryptographic tamper-proof records, links user identities, provides instructions for AI, and records the transactions.

As a result, parties such as merchants, payment networks, and issuing banks can verify that the AI-initiated transaction was authorized by the user. This solution was developed in collaboration with Google and is compatible with the company’s AI payment protocols. Additionally, the system employs a “selective disclosure” mechanism to protect personal data, sharing only the necessary information for each transaction.
