Gate announced that Gate Technology Ltd, a Maltese company, has officially obtained a Payment Institution license under the EU’s Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). The license positions Gate among one of the crypto-native firms in Europe to secure this regulatory approval, laying the foundation for compliant stablecoin and payment services across the EU.
Gate Technology Ltd. CEO, Mr Giovanni Cunti noted that the license enables Gate to build a secure bridge between traditional finance and Web3, offering regulatory certainty for both institutional and retail clients. Gate had previously obtained a full MiCA license for exchange and custody services.
With PSD2 authorization, Gate is now expanding its payment services across the EU via passporting rights. The milestone underscores Gate’s commitment to compliance and regulatory transparency, supporting its continued innovation in Europe’s digital asset financial infrastructure.
To date, multiple Gate entities have obtained or completed relevant regulatory registrations, licensing, authorizations, or approvals in Malta, the Bahamas, Japan, Australia, and Dubai, reflecting ongoing global compliance expansion.
