A woman impersonating a landlord in Chengdu's "multiple tenants for one property" case. Police: The suspect has been criminally detained.
Cover News Reporter Song Xiao
On April 7, the Chengdu Public Security Bureau High-tech Zone Police Sub-Bureau issued a police report stating that recently, the police have received multiple reports from citizens claiming to have been suspected of being scammed during the rental process. After receiving the reports, the police quickly launched an investigation.
According to investigations, suspect Tong (female, 39 years old) rented properties in Chengdu High-tech Zone, Wuhou District, Tianfu New Area, and other locations, then impersonated landlords or used subletting as a pretext, posting false rental information on online platforms, employing a “one property, multiple rentals” method, signing rental contracts with multiple victims, and fraudulently obtaining rent, deposits, and other payments. She then delayed the victims’ move-in for various reasons and fled with the money. During this period, Tong also showed victims forged property ownership certificates and other documents.
After some victims reported the case, the police immediately established a special task force, consolidated related cases for joint investigation, and arrested Tong on April 3. Currently, Tong has been lawfully detained for criminal investigation, and the case is under further investigation.
To fully clarify the facts of the case and effectively protect the legal rights of the victims, victims who have not yet reported the case are requested to bring their ID cards and photocopies, original and photocopies of rental contracts, transaction details, and other relevant evidence materials to the Economic Crime Investigation Brigade of our bureau for registration and reporting, and cooperate with the police in investigation and evidence collection.
