Yabo announces suspension of the Kemerton Lithium Refinery in Western Australia

The world’s largest lithium producer, Albemarle Corporation in the United States, announced that it will suspend its Kemerton lithium hydroxide processing plant in Western Australia, immediately placing Line 1 into maintenance mode. Previously, Line 2 had been idled in 2024, and the $1.5 billion expansion plan was also halted. Albemarle’s CEO stated that recent improvements in lithium prices are insufficient to offset the challenges faced by the Western hard-rock lithium conversion business. The move aims to enhance financial flexibility and preserve options.
