Siri“Plano de Transformação” foi desfeito! Teste interno da Apple(AAPL.US) falhou, o “Siri com IA” foi forçado a ser entregue em etapas

Multiple precise leaks revealing iPhone updates in advance, Apple product leaker Mark Gurman recently stated that Apple’s long-term plan for a major AI upgrade to Siri has encountered obstacles during recent testing. This may delay the release of several highly anticipated new AI features for fans. In other words, the significant AI functionalities originally scheduled for iOS 26.4 might be split into multiple releases—deployed gradually across subsequent versions, with some key features possibly postponed to iOS 26.5 or even iOS 27.

Gurman cited sources saying that these new AI features were initially planned for iOS 26.4—a system update set for March—but Apple is now dispersing these features into future versions. This means some AI capabilities could be delayed until at least iOS 26.5 (expected May) and iOS 27 (expected September).

The latest testing hurdles are just a small part of Apple’s long and challenging AI journey. As early as June 2024, Apple announced a redesign of Siri into an “on-device AI superintelligence.” That year, the company showcased several capabilities, allowing Siri to access personal data and screen content comprehensively, enabling more efficient and personalized responses.

Regarding the AI backbone, Siri will be powered by one of the world’s leading large AI models—Google’s exclusive Gemini AI model. In January, Google confirmed it had a multi-year agreement with Apple to provide core AI support for Apple’s on-device AI tech, including the integration of new AI features into Siri after updates.

This AI partnership is a significant boon for both sides. Apple’s Siri is finally set to undergo a breakthrough AI transformation. Under the agreement, Google’s parent company Alphabet’s market cap surged past $4 trillion for the first time, driven by the partnership, making it the second-largest tech company after Nvidia ($4.5 trillion).

From a strict engineering perspective, this collaboration—where Google’s Gemini assists Apple’s AI—resembles an “intelligence layer” upgrade for Siri/Apple AI. According to joint statements, Apple’s next-generation Apple Foundation Models will be “based on Gemini’s exclusive AI large model and cloud computing technology,” used for new features like a more personalized Siri AI voice assistant, among other future AI innovations. However, current Apple AI features will remain available to users.

Integrating large AI models with PCs, smartphones, and other consumer electronics to create powerful on-device inference capabilities—while also leveraging extensive cloud AI resources to meet deeper personal needs—has become a core element of many global tech companies’ AI roadmaps.

In user scenarios, with cloud and on-device AI models combined, Apple’s Siri may evolve from a clumsy, formal voice assistant into a “personal AI assistant” akin to the “all-powerful AI companion” depicted in the film HER. Apple has stated that future Siri updates will utilize personal data to answer questions and perform tasks across various apps.

Repeated Delays! Upgraded Siri AI Super Assistant Keeps Getting Pushed Back

The upgraded Siri will also enable users to precisely control Apple and third-party apps via voice. All these features were originally scheduled for release early in 2025.

Last spring, Apple postponed the launch, saying the new Siri would arrive in early 2026. However, no specific timeline was provided. Gurman reports that internally, Apple’s management aimed for March 2026—aligned with iOS 26.4—and this target remained unchanged until last month.

But insiders say recent testing revealed new issues, causing another delay. They requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of discussions. They noted that Siri sometimes struggles to correctly handle queries or takes too long to respond.

The situation remains fluid, and Apple’s plans for the new Siri release could shift further. A spokesperson for the Cupertino-based tech giant declined to comment.

After the news broke on Wednesday, Apple’s stock retraced some gains. By close, it was up 0.67%, at $275.50, after earlier rising 2.4%. Driven by market risk sentiment and optimistic demand outlooks for iPhones, Apple’s stock outperformed the S&P 500.

Gurman states that in recent days, Apple has asked engineers to test the new Siri with the upcoming iOS 26.5, implying the features are at least a version behind. The internal build includes notes about new Siri enhancements.

One particularly delayed feature is the expansion of Siri’s ability to access personal data—such as retrieving old messages or finding a shared podcast and playing it immediately.

The internal beta of iOS 26.5 also includes a toggle to enable a “preview” of this feature, indicating Apple is weighing whether to warn users that the initial release might be incomplete or unstable—similar to beta testing practices.

Other delayed features include advanced voice command systems for app control, called app intents. These would allow users to instruct Siri to find, edit, and send images in one command.

Some testers report that support exists but isn’t yet reliable across all scenarios.

Further, there are reports of accuracy issues and bugs, such as Siri interrupting users when they speak too quickly, and problems handling complex queries requiring longer processing times.

Another challenge is that the new Siri sometimes reverts to simple integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT-based generative AI rather than using Apple’s own AI tech, even when it should handle user requests natively.

By late 2025, internal builds of Siri are still very slow, leading some involved in development to believe the launch might be pushed back several more months.

Apple executives have long aimed to avoid delaying the AI assistant product announced in June 2024 until after spring 2026. Recently, they still plan to release it this month or next.

Siri to Get “Gemini AI” Support! Apple Teams Up with Google to Innovate On-Device AI

This is a highly complex project. The redesigned Siri AI assistant is built on a new architecture codenamed Linwood, relying on Apple’s large language model platform—Apple Foundations Models—which is now integrating Google’s cutting-edge Gemini AI technology from Alphabet’s Google team.

Gurman notes that the current iOS 26.5 beta also includes two unannounced features: a new web search tool and custom image generation. These capabilities were tested in iOS 26.4, suggesting some new Siri features might still arrive on schedule.

The web search works similarly to Gemini in Google Search or Perplexity, allowing users to retrieve information from the internet and receive AI-generated answers, summaries, and links.

The image generation uses the same engine as Apple’s Image Playground app, but insiders say it remains unstable.

Beyond these, Apple is developing a major new AI initiative for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27: a completely redesigned Siri that functions more like a futuristic chatbot, supported by Google servers and an advanced, customized Gemini AI model.

Codenamed “Campo,” this project aims to deeply embed AI into Apple’s OS ecosystem, providing interfaces and features akin to ChatGPT. Apple is also testing this system via a dedicated Siri app, allowing users to manage chat histories.

A key feature will be cross-system control and personal data management, including files. Apple plans to incorporate the new Siri engine into core apps like Mail, Calendar, and Safari.

CEO Tim Cook hinted at further changes during a company-wide meeting last week, mentioning new data center AI chips to boost AI capabilities.

“Apple Silicon is enabling us to build data center solutions tailored for our devices,” Cook said. “Looking ahead, our work will make new products and services possible.”

He likely referred to “Baltra,” a long-standing project developing high-performance chips for cloud AI workloads.

The longer development cycle for personal data features stems from Apple’s strict privacy stance. At the same meeting, software chief Craig Federighi emphasized that personalized AI must not expose user data.

“It’s crucial that when a model receives your questions, your data remains private,” he said, adding that the industry standard is to send data to servers for recording, exposure, and training.

Instead, Apple is leading the way in creating AI that stays on the device or is sent to private, privacy-protected servers. The company also relies on authorized and synthetic data—artificially generated data simulating real inputs—rather than directly using user data.

“By combining these factors, we can offer a personalized and powerful exclusive AI experience that increasingly integrates into our lives,” Federighi said, expressing confidence that Apple’s approach will eventually be adopted industry-wide.
