The best way to protect yourself at work
1. No matter how much you may look down on your supervisor, he is still your supervisor. Do your best not to offend him—just playing along for the moment. “An iron camp with constant flowing water, officials who come and go,” you never know when he might leave one day.
2. In everything, don’t try to stand out or think you’re better than everyone else. There are plenty of capable people in the unit—avoid meddling in other people’s affairs. You must understand the principle that “the bird that sticks out gets shot.”
3. The fewer people who know about your private matters at home, the better. Things like a house, a car, your children, your money—there’s nothing worth making a big show of. Be careful not to become a target for everyone’s resentment.
4. Respect other people and get along peacefully with your colleagues as much as possible. Don’t be overly concerned with gains and losses, don’t look down on others, don’t impose your ideas on them, don’t run off at the mouth or get angry, and don’t act impulsively.
5. Even if someone is the best friend in the workplace, you still can’t completely lay your heart bare or trust others easily. Because colleagues can also be competitors—who knows which small point might turn into the soft spot they attack you with.
So, the best way to protect yourself is to mind your words and actions and keep a proper sense of proportion.
