At the Great Wall Motors production workshop, Wei Jianjun took Yu Donglai to visit the production line and personally experienced the Tank 700 on-site. Yu Donglai was amazed by the modernized manufacturing equipment. He said he couldn’t imagine that the domestic car production workshops are already so advanced. He admitted he still has a lot to learn about domestic cars.

Yu Donglai said that twenty or thirty years ago, he indeed looked down on domestic cars. But after the quality of domestic cars improved, the Tank series changed his view of domestic vehicles. Initially, he purchased 30 Great Wall vehicles, and later bought 300, becoming a “big customer” for Great Wall, helping ordinary employees realize their off-road dreams. Yu Donglai mentioned that this month, he ordered another 29 Great Wall vehicles, including 20 of the top-end Tank 700. He said he originally planned to buy other foreign brands, but after experiencing Great Wall’s products in the desert, he finally decided to purchase the Tank 700 to give to executives. Public information shows that the official pre-sale price of the all-new Tank 700 ranges from 438k to 518k yuan.

Wei Jianjun said that twenty years ago, domestic cars were indeed far behind brands like Germany’s. But now, domestic brands like Great Wall are comparable in performance and technology to top international automakers, only still having some small flaws.

“Pang Donglai’s business philosophy, integrity, product quality, and humanistic care are all worth learning from,” Wei Jianjun said. “It is precisely because Pang Donglai excels in these areas that it has attracted attention and become a role model for many companies.” Wei Jianjun also revealed that next year, Great Wall will unveil a super sports car with an eight-cylinder hybrid engine.

Yu Donglai also invited Wei Jianjun to visit Pang Donglai in Xuchang.

In May 2025, the self-media “Chai Dui Dui” posted multiple videos and publicly disparaged the quality of Pang Donglai’s jade products. Yu Donglai faced online abuse. At that time, Wei Jianjun, who was not previously acquainted with Yu Donglai, took the initiative to speak out in support of him.

On March 15, 2026, while experiencing off-road driving in the Ulan Buh Desert in Inner Mongolia, Yu Donglai casually mentioned Great Wall Motors and its chairman Wei Jianjun during a chat with local car enthusiasts about vehicle performance. His words were full of recognition, and he highly praised the performance of the Great Wall Tank series, even feeling it outperformed similar Toyota models. He also invited Wei Jianjun to join him for off-road desert adventures.

Wei Jianjun responded that he had once gone to Xuchang to learn from Pang Donglai, but left after too many people showed up. He also expressed recognition for Pang Donglai’s “sincerity” and “authenticity,” and looked forward to meeting Donglai brother soon. As benchmarks in their respective fields, Great Wall Motors and Pang Donglai show mutual admiration.
