China Chemical News reported that recently, Shell signed a memorandum of understanding with Greek company METLEN, and both parties will establish a liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply and trade cooperation framework. According to the agreement, from 2027 to 2031, both parties plan to trade approximately 500 million to 1 billion cubic meters of LNG annually, delivered to the Revithoussa and Alexandroupolis regasification terminals in Greece.

The agreement also considers utilizing the Vertical Gas Corridor route to expand the supply scope to European markets outside Southeast Europe. Shell is one of the world’s largest LNG producers and traders, and also the largest buyer of US LNG; METLEN holds a leading position in the Southeast European natural gas market.

METLEN’s executive chairman stated that this cooperation will strengthen METLEN’s position in the European natural gas market, reflecting both parties’ shared commitment to enhancing Europe’s energy resilience, while supporting Greece in becoming a regional key energy hub. The agreement aligns with both parties’ intentions to jointly develop opportunities in multiple European countries and is consistent with the direction of the Vertical Gas Corridor initiative.
