The U.S. government is accused of underestimating the possibility of Iran blocking the Strait of Hormuz.
On March 12th local time, according to U.S. sources, several informed individuals stated that the U.S. Pentagon and National Security Council significantly underestimated the likelihood of Iran blocking the Strait of Hormuz in response when formulating plans for military action against Iran. The sources said that President Trump’s national security team did not fully assess the potential consequences of this “worst-case scenario.” Although officials from the Department of Energy and the Treasury Department participated in some planning meetings, economic analysis and forecasts, which usually play a key role in government decision-making, were given secondary importance in this decision-making process.
