The African Development Bank released a report on March 30 in Abidjan titled “2026 African Macroeconomic Performance and Outlook,” which shows that Africa’s economic growth is expected to be 4.2% in 2025, higher than 3.5% in 2024. Among the top 20 fastest-growing economies globally, Africa accounts for 12 spots.
African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina stated that growth is broadly distributed across the continent. “Africa occupying 12 of the world’s 20 fastest-growing economies in 2025 is a source of pride.”
According to forecasts, Africa’s economy will grow by 4.3% and 4.5% in the next two years. Adesina also pointed out that these forecasts were made before the outbreak of the Israel-U.S. conflict, and the situation in the Middle East could impact Africa’s economic growth trajectory. He called for stronger policy measures to support economic activity and reduce related risks.
Kevin Hika Ulamah, Chief Economist and Vice President of the African Development Bank, stated that Africa’s economic recovery faces challenges from the Middle East situation. If the conflict lasts more than three months, Africa’s growth forecast will be downgraded by about 0.2 percentage points. (Xinhua News Agency)
