TechNews February 24: The annual tax reconciliation process is about to begin. According to the State Taxation Administration, the deadline for the 2025 individual income tax comprehensive income reconciliation is from March 1 to June 30, 2026.

Taxpayers who need to handle it between March 1 and March 20 can make an early appointment via the Individual Income Tax App starting February 25; from March 21 to June 30, they can handle it at any time without an appointment.

Taxpayers must complete the annual reconciliation if any of the following applies:

  • The pre-paid tax amount exceeds the amount owed in the annual reconciliation and they are applying for a refund;

  • Their comprehensive income for the tax year exceeds 120,000 yuan and the additional tax owed is more than 400 yuan.

Taxpayers do not need to complete the annual reconciliation if any of the following applies:

  • They owe additional tax in the reconciliation but their total comprehensive income for the year does not exceed 120,000 yuan;

  • The additional tax owed in the reconciliation is 400 yuan or less;

  • The pre-paid tax amount matches the amount owed in the reconciliation;

  • They meet the refund conditions but choose not to apply for a refund.

The specific formula for individual income tax reconciliation is:

Tax refund or amount due = [(Total comprehensive income - 60,000 yuan - special deductions such as social insurance and housing fund - child education and other additional deductions - legally determined other deductions - qualifying charitable donations) x applicable tax rate - quick calculation deduction] - pre-paid tax

Additionally, during the tax reconciliation period, beware of the following messages:

  • Claims that providing your individual income tax App account password and bank card number can help process the tax refund, with service fees paid proportionally to the refund amount, and no fee if unsuccessful.

  • Using false credentials or titles to claim they can provide “tax relief services” or increase refund amounts under the guise of “tax benefits” or “reducing personal burden.”

  • “Tax authorities staff” claiming that you can expedite the refund through a “green channel” by phone, requiring personal information such as ID and bank account for identity verification.
